New Faces and Old Foes: Tim Roth Joins the Cast of the Upcoming Peaky Blinders Film

Tim Roth has been announced as the newest cast member for the eagerly awaited Peaky Blinders film. Recognized for his portrayal of Emil Blonsky, also referred to as Abomination, in The Incredible Hulk and the She-Hulk series, the specifics of Roth's character in the film remain a mystery for now. Joining Roth in this impressive lineup are Rebecca Ferguson, known for her role in Dune, and Barry Keoghan, another Marvel alumnus who took on the role of Druig in Eternals.

Cillian Murphy will return as Tommy Shelby, the leader of the Shelby crime family, which has been the focus of the series throughout the 1920s and 1930s. While there are numerous returning characters from the series expected, the confirmed cast members at this stage include Murphy, Roth, Ferguson, and Keoghan. In the concluding episode of Peaky Blinders' sixth season, Tommy decided to abandon his criminal lifestyle to embrace what he believed would be his final days.

After being given a troubling diagnosis of a brain tumour, he was convinced he was nearing death, only to discover in the season's last moments that he was not. The misdiagnosis had been made by a doctor linked to Sam Claflin's Oswald Mosley, a fascist figure and former political partner of Tommy. It would be compelling to see Tommy seek retribution against Mosley for his betrayal in the forthcoming film. However, details regarding the plot remain scarce, with the confirmed setting being during World War II. The script has been penned by the show's creator, who also serves as a producer.

Tom Harper, known for directing previous episodes of Peaky Blinders as well as the Netflix thriller Heart of Stone, will take on directing duties. As for the film's release, it is anticipated to debut by late 2025 at the earliest. Filming is set to commence in Birmingham, UK, before the year concludes, supported by funding from both Netflix and BBC Films. Netflix will handle the distribution of the movie.
